The pudding factory |
Gallerie-overviewHome |

The history of this building starts around 1910 when Jean Baptiste Chrétien Caron builts here his "Steam Straw Envelope Manufactory". Straw envelopes were used in that time as packaging material. They also burn very well. As appeared in 1917, when the factory is partially destroyed by fire. After that it was used for manufacturing various kinds of other products. From 1938 until 1989 it was a pudding factory: they made powder (with the brand name "VIF") to cook pudding from. That's why local people still call it the pudding factory. The latest use was by a dealer of carpets. You can see the remainings of that in some photographs. In 1999 there was a big fire "under curious circumstances", as I am told. I do not know what is meant with that. Since then it is left to the weathering, graffiti artists and photographers.
It was hard to find information about the history. Corrections or links to more information are welcome (in English please!). Many people will know the building as it is situated at the crossing of a main road and a railway.

While I was in this room, two young people showed up. After the surprise to find me here, they told they would marry soon and were looking for a place to make their wedding photographs. I saw the girl imagining herself in this place with a white dress. She didn't look happy, so I don't think they came back.
